Stitch Fix Box #1 - September 2015

I excited to be blogging about my first Stitch Fix box!  If you like to try Stitch Fix, please use my  referral code as I get a small discount on my next box.  I am also not a photographer but nonetheless, included some pictures.

Before I begin, remember Stitch fix requires a $20 styling fee that will be deducted from any purchases and a 25% discount if you buy all five items.  Anything you do not wish to keep, you send back in a prepaid shipping bag.  So far I am 1 in 4 for purchasing all 5 items. If you are inspired by my blog or if I help you in any way, please use my stitch fix referral code when you sign up! Thanks! :)

Stitch Fix box #1
Preparing for the first fix:  The best advice I could give someone starting out is to fill the style profile out honestly and use the note section to explain further sizing information. Take measurements, stand on the scale and be truthful.  I truly believe that filling out my profile as accurately as I could, helped make my first box so successful. That and my very small pinterest board that I shared with my Stitch Fix account.  I pinned past Stitch Fix items and styles that I liked and made comments on what I like or did not like.  For me, I am sure this helped with the colors chosen for my first fix.

Waiting for the first fix - Box #1: I must say it is exciting receiving your fix.  Before my box arrived I did have an idea of the items I would be getting and their cost from my account on their site once it shipped. While waiting for my box (which only took a few days from ship date), I could not believe I was going to try on a dress marked at $78, and almost $100 pants!  I also found that many of the items in my first box have been around for over a year and some were so popular that they were sold in the past.  I was not sure how to take that.  Was my first box going to be a quickly thrown together hodgepodge of trendy items? Did I just waste $20? Will receiving some of these popular items diminish the personalization marketed with this experience?  I obsessed over others reviews, googled the clothes that were coming.  I just could not wait to see my box and of course the delivery did not come until after 7 pm on my delivery day! (Please note the types of picture I am included are modeled after other Stitch Fix review and blogs. Many of which helped me with determining if Stitch Fix is for me.)

The Box - Stitch Fix Box #1
At first I could not believe 5 pieces of clothing fit in this tiny little box. They know how to make the most of their packaging, that's for sure!  I felt like a kid on Christmas morning when I opened the box.  The clothes inside were nicely wrapped with an envelope housing your personal note, style cards and ordering information.  Also included is a pre-paid return envelope for returns.  (From what I read, it is expected that you will return more items then you keep from each fix).

The clothing (oh, I am a size 10-12)
Margarete M Emer High Wasited Trouser $98 (large)
Trouser and Split Neck Blouse
At first, I was not sure what to think. They have no belt loops, zippers, buttons, or anything. Are they leggings or pants?  I also thought that there was no way they would fit.  But I was not about to break the cardinal Stitch Fix rule, TRY EVERYTHING ON, so I changed into the pants and my style world began to change.  They fit!  What? How could they? I am not a skinny jean person.  I had read many reviews of these pants and for the most part either women love them or hate them.  I am a bit concerned they may be too tight in my calf, and am concerned the waist band will stretch, but I was in love as how skinny they made me look.  My other concern is that the only shirts that look really awesome with them are the ones from my fix. But, this is a long term investment and change so my verdict: Keep.

Barbacoa Split Neck Blouse $68 (large)
This shirt I new the least about as not to many Stitch Fix reviewers out there have reviewed it.  Just
seeing the color (black and white) and the pattern, I was in love. I am guilty of all ready having other shirts and dresses in geometric black/white patterns, but nothing of this fit.  After putting this on with the included trousers and then with jeans (the closest ones I could find to those on the style card) I knew it was a keeper.  My husband also likes this one the best.  The biceps are a little snug (a complaint from other reviewers too), but after wearing it while deciding if I was keeping the pants it loosened up and I was comfortable.  I do need to wear a cami under it, but that does not bother me a bit.  Keep.

Tabbed Shirt
Colibri Solid Tabbed Sleeve Blouse $48 (large)
This actually was my least favorite item when I first unpacked my box.  The green is great fall color, but nothing exciting, and it has one pocket. I don't wear blouses with pockets.  Sticking to trying it on, it is now my favorite item from this fix.  I immediately paired it with a black and white skirt I have owned for years but rarely wore due to not having a great to top to pair with it.   The shirt is comfortable and does not need a cami if worn in warmer weather.  The sleeves are hard for me to roll, but I am horrible at rolling any type of sleeve.  This blouse pair with the pants is when it really hit me that I have been buying the wrong type of clothes my entire life.  Keep!

Renesme Geo Cube Print Faux Wrap Dress $78 (Large)
I was secretly hoping to get a dress in my first fix.  I did not ask for one, but in my style profile I made sure to choose "a healthy mix of both" referring to pants vs dresses.  Dresses are great for mornings I have no time to fuss over an outfit and are comfortable.  Once I held up this dress I new it was for me.  First, it had sleeves!  I am tired of wearing cardigans with every dress I own to school since shoulders must be covered per the dress code.  Secondly, the color and pattern is perfect for fall and winter (the majority of the school year)!  The dress fabric is very soft, comfortable and a medium
weight.  This will be great with flats in the fall or tights, boots, and a cardigan in the winter.  Now all I need are the boots and the cardigan...  I do not mind the $78 for the dress.  In fact, this was one of the few items that fell into my targeted price ranges in my style profile.  After trying it on, I knew I was keeping it.  I am tall and this dress falls at my knees, a perfect length for a teacher.

Corinna Striped Dolman Top $48 (large)
This shirt, along with the trousers, have been very popular. Almost everyone who I read reviews on received these items (various colors) at some point in their fix career. I like the color I was sent but was worried about the horizontal stripes. It is my least favorite item in this fix.  However, the fabric is one of the most comfortable and soft fabrics I have ever come across (I don't get out to fancy clothing stores much)!  I am not sure I could wear it to school, unless it was a dress down day, but admit it would be a nice piece to keep for around town, weekend family functions, etc.   After a couple days of reflection of my fix and trying the clothes on for the hundredth time (when the kids were sleeping of course), I did keep this top.  But only because I really wanted the other four pieces and you get the 25% off discount for buying all five.

Conclusion
I am one of the few who have bought the entire 5 items in the first box.  Reasons this worked so well for me include filling out my style profile honestly, accepting the prices of the items before they arrived, and having no style sense at all.  These reasons and the need to look professional while being comfortable is what made my first Stitch Fix a success.  I can't wait for fix #2 (I am continuing with Stitch Fix for next month at least).  Now, I can actually go wash my new clothes and enjoy them!  I just hope my students recognize me ;)

Thank you for reading and I hope this helped you as so many other reviews helped me.
I hope you consider Stitch Fix, I know I was pleasantly surprised.

Feel free to tell me what you think too?  My picture taking needs work, I know that! :)
